How can AI be used in logistics?

In freight brokerage, 3PL and carrier operations, AI handles the paperwork and status traffic around each load: reading rate confirmations into the TMS, capturing BOLs and PODs, auditing carrier invoices against the rate con, answering “where is my load?” emails, making check calls and checking carrier onboarding packets. Reps keep covering freight and working exceptions.

The work we hear about most from logistics teams.

Workflows we automate

Each one built around your current tools and rules, with your team approving the steps you choose.

Safeguards for logistics

  • Carrier bank-detail changes are verified by calling back on the contact details from the onboarding record, outside the email thread that requested the change, before any payment details are updated.
  • Carrier identity checks before tender: authority, insurance and contact details are compared against the onboarding file and public records, and mismatches are flagged to your team as possible double brokering.
  • Accessorial approval thresholds: detention, lumper and layover charges need matching evidence, and amounts above your limits wait for a named approver.
  • Status replies use only current tracking or check-call data. When there is no recent location, the reply says so and the load goes to the owning rep.

Questions from logistics teams

How is pricing structured?

It depends on the workflows, load and document volume, and the systems involved. We usually start with a fixed-fee audit of one workflow, such as POD capture or carrier invoice audit, which ends with a build plan and a fixed price. Running the system afterwards is a monthly fee.

Does it work with our TMS?

We connect to McLeod, MercuryGate, Turvo and other TMS platforms through their APIs or EDI where available, and use controlled browser automation where they are not. We confirm what your setup allows during the audit, before quoting.

How accurate is it on handwritten or faxed PODs?

Accuracy depends on the quality of your documents, so we measure it on a sample of your own BOLs and PODs before launch. Fields the model is unsure about, such as a faint signature or a handwritten exception note, go to a reviewer with the image shown alongside.

Can it handle status requests at night and on weekends?

Yes. Email replies and check calls run at any hour, using your tracking data. Anything that needs a decision, such as a missed appointment or a load at risk, goes to your on-call person by the escalation rules you set.

How is our rate and customer data protected?

Agents get only the access each task needs, and every action is logged. Customer rates are kept separate from carrier-facing messages. Your data is not used to train models for other clients, and we can deploy in your own cloud account if required.

Will AI take freight brokers’ jobs?

It takes the parts of the job that are typing and chasing: rate con entry, POD collection, status replies and invoice checks. Covering freight, negotiating with carriers and handling a load that goes wrong still need a broker, and those are the hours this frees up.

Can it audit freight invoices?

Yes. Carrier invoices are matched to the rate confirmation and shipment record, and linehaul, fuel, detention, lumper and TONU charges are checked against agreed terms and receipts. Differences go to your team with the reason before anything is approved for payment.
