What is Quote-to-cash?

Quote-to-cash (Q2C) is the process from building a customer quote through contract, order, billing, collection and revenue recognition, joining sales and finance.

In more detail

Order-to-cash begins with an order. Quote-to-cash begins earlier, at pricing and approval, which is where many revenue errors start: a discount agreed in the CRM but missing from billing, a contract term left out of the invoice schedule, a renewal uplift never applied. Q2C links the quote (CPQ), the contract, the billing system and the ledger so the numbers carry across. It matters most for subscription, usage-based and project businesses with changing terms. Automation targets are discount approval routing, contract data extraction, invoice schedule creation and billing-to-contract checks.

Example

A software firm signs a three-year deal with a 5 percent annual uplift. The system extracts the terms from the signed contract, builds the invoice schedule in the billing tool and checks each month's invoice against it.
