Infor AP automation with AI agents
We build AI agents for accounts payable on Infor ERP, such as M3 and LN. They read supplier invoices, match them to purchase orders and receipts, route approvals and send exceptions to the right buyer or receiver. They connect through the Infor ION API Gateway, which enforces OAuth 2.0, and we build in a test environment first.
For manufacturers and distributors on Infor ERP whose invoices carry freight, partial receipts and blanket orders that make matching slow.
What we automate in Infor
The accounts payable cycle from the invoice in the inbox to the payment batch, with your team approving what matters.
- 1
Invoice reading and coding
Supplier invoices from email and EDI-style feeds are read and prepared for entry, with the supplier, order reference, lines and tax checked against master data.
- 2
Order and receipt matching
Invoice lines are compared with the purchase order and the goods received. Partial deliveries, blanket orders and price changes are handled by written tolerance rules.
- 3
Freight and charge lines
Freight, duty and handling lines are separated from goods lines and coded by your rules. Lines the rules don't cover go to AP with the likely category suggested.
- 4
Exception routing
A mismatch goes to the buyer for price, the receiver for quantity or AP for tax. Each queue shows the age of the oldest item and who owns it.
- 5
Approval follow-up
Approvers get a summary and a reminder on your schedule. Escalation follows your chain, and the answer is stored with the invoice.
- 6
Supplier statement checks
Supplier statements are compared with open items in Infor, and differences come back as a short list with the likely cause for each.
How one Infor run works
Each step is fixed logic, a model doing the reading, a call to the system, or a person on your team. You decide which steps wait for approval.

How the Infor integration works
We build on the interfaces the vendor documents, and we link the documentation so you can check it.
Infor is a family of products with different APIs. The ION layer is shared, but which application APIs expose purchase orders, receipts and AP invoices differs between M3, LN and others, and between releases. We confirm that for your product and version in discovery.
If your ERP already exchanges documents through ION messaging, we can read what that flow carries and add checks beside it, so we don't build a second path for the same data.
ION API Gateway
Infor's documentation describes the gateway as a reverse proxy that brokers requests between API consumers and providers, with a common base URL path, one authentication mechanism, client authorization and usage logs. Our calls to Infor applications go through it.
OAuth 2.0
Infor's developer site says the gateway enforces OAuth 2.0 for APIs in the Infor Cloud. For server-to-server use it lists a resource owner grant that needs the client ID and secret plus a service account's access and secret keys.
Backend service credentials
An administrator registers the application as a backend service in the Infor portal and downloads a credentials file. Enabling OAuth scopes needs the ION API Administrator role.
ION messaging and connection points
ION routes standard XML messages (BODs) between applications, and its API connection points can call any REST application registered in the gateway that has Swagger 2.0 or OpenAPI 3 documentation. We use messaging where an existing flow already runs on it.
Vendor documentation we build against
- Infor ION API Administration Guide (Infor Documentation)
- API Gateway or ION API (Infor Documentation)
- API Security (Infor Developer Portal)
- ION API connection point (Infor OS documentation)
Links open the vendor's own site. Interfaces change, so we confirm current behavior in a sandbox before we build.
What we read and write in Infor
Reading is the default. Each write has a named gate, so you can see who has to agree before anything changes.
Supplier
Read to match the invoice and check bank details.
Gate: AP lead for any change
Purchase order
Read to compare lines, prices and quantities.
Gate: Read only
Goods receipt
Read to confirm what arrived.
Gate: Read only
Supplier invoice
Prepared and entered through the interface your product exposes.
Gate: Approval by amount and company
Open items and statements
Read for statement checks and aging.
Gate: Read only
Payment proposal
Open items prepared for review. The run stays in Infor.
Gate: Payment authorizer
Controls and testing
People stay in charge of money and records. The system keeps the evidence.
A backend service identity
The integration signs in as its own service with only the scopes it needs. It can't approve invoices it entered.
Test tenant first
We start in a test environment, replay real invoices and compare the entries with the ones your AP team made. Production starts read-only.
Audit trail
Each run stores the invoice, the extraction, the rules applied, the approver and the Infor document number. The gateway's own usage logs show the calls we made.
Tolerances in writing
Price and quantity tolerances live in a rules file you review. Changing one is a change you sign off, not a tweak we make.
Where we stop, and what to expect
- Infor customers often run heavily configured systems. We map custom fields and flows before we write anything.
- Which APIs are open to you depends on your product, release and licenses. We list them before scoping.
- We don't automate payment runs. We prepare the proposal and a person with payment authority releases it.
Questions about Infor automation
Can AI automate accounts payable in Infor?
Yes. The agent reads invoices, matches them to orders and receipts, and routes exceptions to the buyer, receiver or AP. It connects through the ION API Gateway. Which application APIs we can write to depends on your Infor product and release.
Does it work with both Infor M3 and Infor LN?
Both are possible, but they are separate products with different APIs. We build against the one you run and confirm the available interfaces in discovery.
How does authentication work?
Through the ION API Gateway, which Infor says enforces OAuth 2.0 in the cloud. An administrator registers a backend service and downloads its credentials, and we use only the scopes you approve.
We already use ION messaging. Do you replace it?
No. We read what the flow carries and add checks beside it. A second path for the same data would only create two places for something to break.
How do you handle partial deliveries?
With written tolerance rules and a receiver in the loop. The invoice is matched to what arrived so far, the short quantity goes to the receiver, and nothing is entered until a person confirms.
